Natural Remedy For Constipation

Nancy Addison, nutritionist and celebrity chef, shares her delcious recipe for a constipation remedy that is easy to make.

I started a new section in my monthly newsletter. It is called: Ask Nancy. It has become very popular.People send me a question and each month, in my newsletter, I answer one of them. My question this month is about a natural remedy for constipation.

This month’s question is:

What is the best, natural remedy I can take for constipation?

Answer:

Great question! So many people struggle with this and it can actually be life-threatening.

Our immune system and well-being are directly correlated with the health of our intestinal tract. It’s imperative that we keep it healthy, free of debris, and moving smoothly.

Food wise, the best thing for constipation is the juice from watermelon and it’s rind – a juicer is required for best results, but you can use a blender too. (A powerful blender will work, but you will have to cut the rind up well and then strain the mixture or drink it with all of the fiber.)

Pick a watermelon with a lot of deep color (rich in anti-oxidants). Wash the watermelon really well, cut the rind off and juice away! Add a pinch of whole sea salt to the mixture for added minerals. The watermelon is full of natural electrolytes and the salt will help you absorb the hydrating waters from the juice, and become better hydrated without pulling minerals from your body. Drink this mixture and walk around, or get some sort of body movement.

For diabetics or anyone worried about high blood sugar, adding some juice from fresh stringbeans will make the drink less sugary, reducing the blood sugar impact.”One cup of stringbean skin is equal to at least one unit of insulin.” (1)

I have made this mixture for people and their system starts moving pretty quickly. They were thrilled with the results.

Recipe:

· 1 cup watermelon ( seeds removed)

2 cups watermelon juice (from rind)a pinch of baking soda

· 1 pinch of whole sea salt (Bolivianrose, Real or Himalayan are all good choices.)

Addition for diabetics is optional:

-1/2 cup whole stringbean juice (from fresh string beans)

Note: Do not buy “seedless” watermelon, if possilbe, because they are GMO (genetically modified foods)Even organically grown foods can be GMO and called organic, unfortunate but true. But there are no natural God given plants that are seedless.
