Recently I had someone ask me about constipation. He said, “I have had terrible constipation and I can’t seem to get it resolved.
Please give me some advice.”

So, my answer is: This is a very important subject to address.

If your body is not eliminating wastes efficiently after each meal, there may be some blockage in the intestinal tract. This can be a serious health problem which should be addressed immediately. I feel most health problems are a result of the blockages in the intestinal tract.

Anyone who has been a consumer of processed foods, fried foods, trans fats, or meat may have blockages, plaque, or debris lodged in the colon. After years and years of eating meals that have not been completely digested or moved out of the body, layers and layers of waste have possibly built up in the intestinal tract.

The intestinal tract is where you are supposed to absorb most of your nutrition, and it’s where a major part of the immune system resides. If this is blocked up, the immune system is not able to work effectively and you may not be able to absorb the nutrition you need.

Natalia Rose, a New York clinical nutritionist, says that if you wake up in the morning, have a bowel movement, pull in your gut, and it is almost to your spine, then you have an empty and clean intestine. If you cannot do this, then your intestines are full of undigested waste stuck in the tissues like cement.

Master colon therapist Gil Jacobs explains that a laxative will do nothing for the normal person who is eating fairly well, except release the very newest waste, and then drive the older waste deeper into the tissue and make it harder to remove. The laxative will irritate the bowels.

Both Gil Jacobs and Natalia Rose believe in colonic cleansing, and they recommend the gravity method. The client reclines in a large chair, and a small quantity of warm water is very slowly introduced into the colon by a narrow tube. Then the water (and hopefully some built up waste) runs out of the colon, being released through a tube and directly into the plumbing. The hydrotherapist answers questions, guiding or assisting whenever needed.

Having a colonic is actually very easy. The water cleanses the walls of the intestine. Each time a colonic is done, another layer of plaque or waste can be washed out of the lining of the colon.

People sometimes say, “I got a colonoscopy, and they said my colon is fine.”

I feel I need to address a few differences between what I consider a healthy method called a colonics and a medical procedure called a colonoscopy.

A colonoscopy doesn’t clean out the colon. It doesn’t pull out the toxins or plaque embedded in the lining of the intestines. It is like a bullet going through the barrel of a gun.

In fact, there are risks and dangers with getting a colonoscopy.

Did you know it is IMPOSSIBLE to completely sterilize a colonoscope?

Colonoscopies destroy the bacterial flora that balance the microorganisms in your colon. The average colon in a human body, contains 3 – 4 pounds of bacteria, most of which consists of good, healthy bacteria. The colonoscopy preparation procedure actually strips your colon of all of its good, protective bacteria.

1 in every 350 colonoscopies end up doing serious harm. The death rate is about 1 for every 1,000 procedures. With 15 million colonoscopies being done each year in the U.S., that means about 15,000 Americans die as a result of this routine procedure.

Getting back to the subject of being constipated and the numerous health problems that can arise from that situation, I see a colonic as a safer and healthier method to remedy that situation quickly and more effectively than pharmaceutical drugs or laxatives.

A colonic actually washes out the debris, plaque, and whatever else is stuck in the layers of the intestinal wall.

Colonics are recommended for people with a high degree of inflammation, constipation, and/or plaque in their colon. Some people find it so useful that they continue to do it once a month or more just to stay clean.

Gil and Natalia say that a person who grew up eating a standard American diet of bread, meat, trans fats, sugar, and junk food could get a colonic every week for the rest of his or her life, and still not have one-hundred percent of the waste completely removed from the colon. But the more waste that is removed, the healthier you will be.

Dr. Ed Group states that a colonic only cleans out the large intestines, where as the small intestines is the most important part to clean out. He recommends the Oxypowder, which is a formulation by Nikola Tesla and it is sold by Global Healing. You can listen to Dr. Group here on my weekly podcast in July 2024. I will say, I have recommended it to many of my clients who struggle with this situation and it has worked quickly and gotten them regular and in much better health easily.

One thing I highly recommend for daily health and also for constipation relief, is drinking a large glass of warm mineral-rich water every morning as soon as you get up, before doing anything else. This will help hydrate you and assist moving any toxins and waste out of the body.

An important subject to note, is that a raw food diet will awaken the body and help get waste out. The raw food is more likely to be completely or close to completely digested. Your body will start to cleanse itself of toxins because of the antioxidant-rich food and fiber.

When the colon and the rest of the intestinal tract are cleaned up and running free and clear, the whole body will start to work in harmony.

Many people will find that their joint problems, headaches, back aches, skin problems, and hair problems simply disappear when they finally get their colon and intestines clean and oxygenated.

Natalia Rose also recommends enemas as another way to remove waste from the bowels. They can work well and get waste to come out of the tissues.

Additionally, Gil and Natalia recommend putting a small step stool in front of the toilet. If you put your feet on the small stool when using the toilet, your intestinal tract has a better curve, making it much easier to move waste through the tract.

Also, recently I learned about Oxypowder – a supplement developed by Nikola Tesla, of a specific type of magnesium formulation, that Tesla’s personal assistant gave to Dr. Ed Group. Dr. Group worked on it and make Oxypowder. I have found it to be incredibly helpful for my clients who were struggling with constipation. It is incredibly effective and healthy. Here is a link for Global Healing, Dr. Ed Group’s company that makes it.

(They test for quality, effectiveness, and origin of ingredients.)

In conclusion, keep your intestinal tract and colon clean and your whole body will operate more effectively, and your health will benefit in many ways.

Fresh organic, non-GMO produce is part of a healthy eating plan and lifestyle. It can be a waste of money if it goes bad before we have a chance to eat it. So, let’s make our organic produce for optimum health be more budget friendly.

Storing it properly is important. We go to the store and buy delicious-looking food. But then we get home and end up storing it improperly, or we get busy and forget about it. Then we find our refrigerator having the aroma of over-ripe or rotting fruits and vegetables. One way we can spend less AND eat healthier is by storing our fresh food properly.

Many times we go to the store and see all of the beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables in season and on sale, and we over buy. So, first try to only buy what you truly feel you are going to eat in the next few days. Don’t try to buy produce to last for a week. It may not last that long. Some root vegetables can last a month if stored properly, but fresher, more fragile fruits and vegetables will only last about 2-5 days. If you do buy too much, you can think about making a pie, or doing some canning, or freezing some of your more fragile fruits and vegetables before they spoil.

Always store your food in its complete wholeness. According to food scientist Barry Swanson at Washington State University, if you pull fruits and vegetables apart, you have broken the cells, and microorganisms will immediately begin to grow. Avoid breaking the skin and leave the stem intact.

He also says you should never place fruits and vegetables in airtight bags. That actually will speed up the decay. Be mindful that mold will proliferate quickly in airtight bags and can spoil the whole group of fruits or vegetables. Toss out any spoiled produce immediately, or put it into your compost bin.

Next, make sure you are storing the various types of fruits and vegetables with the right partners. Some give off high levels of ethylene gas (a ripening agent), which makes them and everything around them ripen or decay quickly. You want to keep these types of foods separate from each other.

Put things like kale and spinach in the same bin, and peaches and apples in another. If you put fruit with greens, it will cause the greens to rot or turn yellow in a few days. Greens are very sensitive to the ethylene gas.

I have a little product called a BluApple Produce Saver. I just put it in my bin with the fruits and/or greens.

Of course, if you need something to ripen faster, then you can use this knowledge to your advantage. You can put the fruit or vegetable you need to ripen with a fruit that gives off the highest level of ethylene gas.

I also use produce Greenbags by Debbie Meyer. They will absorb ethylene gas and help your produce stay fresher longer.

Keep root vegetables (including all kinds of potatoes) in a cool, dark, dry place. They can last up to a month if kept properly. Never store potatoes in the refrigerator, because they will develop a much higher sugar content.

Here is a list of fruits and vegetables, showing the best way to store them. These are high ethylene producers, and you can refrigerate them: apples, apricots, avocados, blueberries, cantaloupe, cherimoyas, cranberries, figs, green onions, guavas, grapes, honeydew, kiwifruit, mangoes, nectarines, papayas, passion fruit, peaches, pears, persimmons, plums, prunes, quince, and tomatoes.

The banana is a high releaser, and should be stored in a cool dark place outside of the refrigerator.

The following fruits and vegetables are very sensitive to ethylene gas: asparagus, bananas (unripe), blackberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, endive, garlic, green beans, kale, leafy greens, leeks, lettuce, okra, onions, parsley, peas, peppers, raspberries, spinach, squash, strawberries, watercress, and watermelon. Keep them separate from the high ethylene gas-producing foods.

Mushrooms should be stored in a dry paper bag or breathable container and put in a cool place. I’ve been told to gently brush them off to clean them before preparing them for consumption.

Try to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables that have been ripened on the vine or on the tree. Tree or vine-ripened foods contain salvestrols, which are compounds that have natural anti-cancer properties.(1)

In fact, the word salvestrol comes from the Latin word “save.” So, growing your own food or buying from a local farmer is one way of getting food that is vine or tree-ripened. Food that is picked green and then ripened on the way to market does not contain these salvestrols.

Organic food is best, because it is more nutrient dense. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides can destroy nutrients in the soil, like sulfur, chromium, minerals, and probiotics, which are vital for our health.

“The Organic Center study found that organic foods were more nutritionally dense in 61% of the cases” and they “found conventional foods to contain higher nitrates, which are widely considered a potential health hazard.” (2)

Farmers’ markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers. The fresh, organic produce is local, in season, less expensive, fresher, and it’s fun to meet your local farmers. Find a local farmer’s market near you with Local Harvest.
With all the fresh fruits and vegetables enticing us from their bins at the farmer’s market or grocery store, now we can make those delicious meals with our properly stored produce!

Good news to start off a Friday from Nancy, your Renegade Nutritionist

Most of you know how much certain things mean to me, such as protecting our bees, safeguarding our environment, and living an organic lifestyle.

I am not that easily impressed, but there is a supermarket called Aldi, that is known for its low prices, and they have done something that is extraordinary.

Aldi is removing all products that contain neonicotinoid pesticides. (If you remember, I had a petition against the EPA to ban the manufacturing and use of neonicotinoid pesticides, because they are decimating the environment and killing the bees and butterflies. The EPA has still not banned them, even though the Federal Courts ruled that they should.

The EPA has even admitted knowing that the following poisons are the major reason the bee populations are being destroyed:

*Chlorpyrifos

*Clothianidin

*Cypermethrin

*Deltamethrin

*Fipronil

*Imidacloprid

*Sulfoxaflor

*Thiamethoxam

Aldi is not only doing this environmentally-positive action of removing all products that contain the neonicotinoid pesticides, but they are also committing their Aldi grocery stores to be all organic by May 1, 2017.

Hooray for this ethical company that is doing the right thing for all of us.

They are a no-frills store with positive goals and reasonable prices, which may make organic food affordable for everyone.

I’m giving them my gold star of approval.

Here is the link to read my information about the bees, the neonicotinoids and the environment.

http://www.organichealthylifestyle.com/the-plight-of-pollinators-today/

Special Note:

Also be aware as you are buying plants for your garden this spring, that the plants and fruit trees, etc. may have these toxic poisons in them. Ask your nursery to be sure.

One way to order organic plants without toxins, is to order them online from a respected company like Seeds of Change, an organic seed and plant company.
