As Valentine’s Day draws near, my research shows that hugs can actually ward off stress and protect the immune system. It is my opinion (after 35 years of research) that isolation or “social distancing” can actually harm your health.

I remember a story I read about two twin baby girls. When they were born on Oct. 17, 1995, they were premature by 12 weeks and were put in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Medical Center in Central Massachusetts in Worcester.

As a standard practice of the hospital, the babies were placed into separate incubators in order to reduce the risk of infection.

One baby, Kyrie, was much larger than her sister Brielle, who only weighed two pounds at her birth. The larger baby, Kyrie, slept well and was healthily gaining weight, but her smaller sister, Brielle, was having trouble breathing and had low levels of oxygen in her blood, as well as low weight gain and problems with her heart rate.

Everyone was deeply concerned, especially a particular nurse named Gayle Kasparian, who was trying everything that she could think of to help Brielle.

Then, on Nov. 12th, Brielle had an emergency health situation. She started gasping for air and started turning a gray-blue color. Then she got hiccups, and her heart rate went way up.

Everyone was so afraid Brielle would not survive.

In desperation, nurse Kasparian remembered a common procedure a fellow colleague had mentioned to her once that was common practice in most of Europe, but was not done here in this country.

It was the practice of placing “newborn baby multiple births” in beds together. They called it double bedding. Even though she could not ask permission from her manager, since she was away and was not able to be reached, she asked the parents for their permission to put the girls together in one bed to see if it would help. They agreed. So, nurse Gayle broke the rules and placed the larger baby with her smaller baby sister, now in extreme danger of dying.

The moment they were placed together in the bed, Brielle immediately snuggled up to her sister and within minutes, Brielle’s readings for her blood and oxygen levels were better than they had been since her birth. Kyrie gently put her arm around Brielle. It was such a beautiful hug.

In the article I read, they called it a rescuing hug. It was a very powerful hug. Being together had quite literally saved Brielle’s life. Soon after that, the parents were able to take the girls home, because they both were thriving.

Nurse Gayle did not get in trouble. In fact, the practice of double bedding multiple births is now a standard practice at the hospital. Sometimes, breaking the rules can lead to changes in old antiquated practices. It takes courage and a strong heart to do what you believe in.

So, as we lead our busy lives, remember that our connectiveness and our ability to love are so precious, that we can literally save another’s life by just being there for them.

So, share those wonderful hugs with your loved ones.

Take the time to truly listen, be present and reach out with the most precious gift you can give.

That is the precious gift of you.

You may never know how much of an impact that your hug and/or your smile might have on another life, but it is something you can give every day without spending a penny.

I am mentally sending hugs to you all!

Much love, and have a joyful and loving month of February.

Love, Nancy

I have heart disease. I have learned that a vegetarian diet can reverse heart disease. I bought your book, “How To Be A Healthy Vegetarian” 2nd edition and I’m on a vegetarian diet .
I know I am doing much better thanks to your wonderful nutrition-packed cookbook, but my doctor still wants me to take statin drugs. I worry about taking those, because they have a lot of side effects.
I wondered if there are some new updates for supporting my health on a daily basis that might help me avoid using statins and also help my heart be healthier?

My Answer:

There is new research and information coming out all the time regarding the best way to take care of our health.

Recently, I’ve been discussing heart disease, cholesterol, and cancer with Dr. Stephanie Seneff (a senior research scientist at MIT) on my radio show, and I have learned something very important, which I am going to pass along to you and my Organic Healthy Life Family.

Dr. Seneff has studied extensively the correlation between heart disease, sulfur, and cholesterol. She told me that one of the most crucial things people can do for their overall health is to add sulfur-rich foods and liquids to their daily diet. This is particularly helpful for people with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, autism, and Alzheimer’s.

Mel Werbach, M.D., author of the Textbook of Nutritional Medicine (Third Line Press, 1999), sees sulfur as a blind spot in nutrition and medicine. (1)

“Here is an essential nutrient that no one sees as being that,” says Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D. “We don’t learn anything about sulfur in medical school. Sulfur has been the most understudied and overlooked nutrient.” (2)

“Sulfur-based amino acids and sulfur are the “glue” which not only form the matrix of our bones and joints but all of the cellular interlinking, which is the true cellular matrix not only of man but all living organisms, even water has a matrix.” (3)

Sulfur compounds are found in egg yolks, as well as organically-grown onion, garlic, and cruciferous vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels Sprouts, watercress, radish, and leeks. In addition to foods, sulfur-rich mineral water is another source.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to add sulfur-rich food to your diet is to add cruciferous sprouts, especially broccoli sprouts.

Sprouts are the ultimate superfood and are rich in vitamins, minerals, and natural enzymes. Sprouts can contain all of the nutritional value of the whole plant in one little sprout!

When seeds are sprouted, they show an increase in enzymes, in content of certain essential amino acids, and in B Vitamins. Dr. Paul Talalay of the American Cancer Society said that broccoli sprouts are better for you than full-grown broccoli.(4)

Broccoli sprouts contain more of the enzyme sulforaphane,
(a form of sulfur) which helps protect cells and prevents their genes from turning into cancer.(5) Broccoli sprouts are an exceptionally rich source of inducers of enzymes that protect against chemical carcinogens.

According to research, Sulforaphane is a sulfur-containing food molecule that reverses aging, stops inflammation, kills cancer, protects the brain, and puts an end to cardiovascular disease.

While sulforaphane is found naturally in cruciferous vegetables, these vegetables must be prepared and eaten in the right way to maximize the bioavailability of sulforaphane. By this I mean eating them as a raw sprout, without heating them. Broccoli sprouts have much more sulforaphane than All Other Cruciferous Vegetables Combined.

You know how I am always saying it’s important to detoxify and have clean cells. Well, sulforaphane can really help the body with detoxification. Sulforaphane has been shown in studies to detoxify pesticides that are in our food.(6)

Studies have also shown that sulforaphane can help us detoxify from the polluted air we are breathing. The broccoli sprouts help detoxify 61% of benzene, which is a carcinogen.(7)

For anyone concerned with their weight or with diabetes, a study put mice on the Standard American Diet. The mice quickly became obese, with insulin resistance and very high cholesterol levels, and they developed atherosclerosis. (8)

What was most interesting about this study was that the mice that were given sulforaphane had their hunger hormone levels drop and they lost weight. The insulin metabolism of the mice
became normalized, their blood pressure and cholesterol levels dropped, and their atherosclerosis was reversed.(9)

New research is showing that sulforaphane may ultimately be the best anti-diabetes nutrient. “Sulfur is necessary in the production of insulin, as well as other sulfur-based amino acids necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates.” (10)

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden enrolled 97 obese people with type 2 diabetes. They then randomized these people to either broccoli sprouts or a placebo.

After just 12 weeks, those people randomized to broccoli sprouts had blood sugar readings 10% lower than those randomized to a placebo. Probably the most positive part of this study is that the diabetics did not have any of the side effects that you would expect to see from a diabetes pharmaceutical drug. (11)

Dr. Stephanie Seneff’s research at MIT has shown her some important information concerning cholesterol. Many people worry about their cholesterol levels, but when you ingest sulfur-rich foods or get sunshine without sunscreen, the cholesterol joins together with the sulfur. This naturally lowers cholesterol and creates a marvelous healing combination.

While few people want to take a statin drug to reduce high cholesterol, one possible alternative could be broccoli sprouts. In one study, broccoli sprouts reduced LDL or bad cholesterol by 7%. (12)

If that isn’t enough to convince you to add some organic broccoli sprouts to your diet, another study found that sulforaphane is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound that helps reduce depression and anxiety. (13)

While there aren’t any good studies showing that sulforaphane treats depression and anxiety in humans, it certainly seems to help mice with their depression and anxiety. (14) This may help in these times as we try to handle the covid-19 pandemic situation and all the things involved.

Growing your own sprouts is easy. Anyone can do it, and the sprouts are ready to harvest in four days to a week. All you need are organic, non-GMO seeds, clean water, and a sieve or sprouting bag or jar.

An easier way is to order organically grown, raw, non-GMO Broccoli Sprout Powder from the Indoor Organic Gardens Of Poughkeepsie. They use non-chlorinated water to grow them in organic soil and dry them at room temperature.

This is a marvelous, ethical company that hires people who find it difficult to find work, such as autistic people. They also donate food to the elderly and children’s food programs. I have been to the facility and was extremely impressed with their work, their quality, and their product.

The broccoli powder can be added a few times a day to various meals such as smoothies, cereal, apple sauce, mashed potatoes, etc. It doesn’t have much taste, but it will add powerful nutrition to your food.

They also grow a lot of other types of organically grown sprouts that you can order and add to your salads, sandwiches, etc. They can overnight them to you, so they are super fresh.

Order your sprouts or raw broccoli sprout powder from the “Indoor Organic Gardens Of Poughkeepsie” and put “NANCY” in the code box and get a discount on your order.

I always stress that you should eat Organic, Non-GMO food for many reasons, but a main reason is that chemical fertilizers and pesticides destroy the sulfur and other fragile nutrients in the soil. Sulfur is only present in fresh organically-grown foods.

In the Sulfur Study in 1999, the research found that “Finland, alarmed over the increasing disease rate of its population, took a hard look at chemical fertilizers and banned all of them, fearing the levels of cadmium. They were not aware of the sulfur connection at the time. Since doing so, they have become a leading supplier of “Bio-Friendly” or completely organic foods in Europe. They have also seen their disease rates drop to one-tenth of the 1985 levels. In 1985, the U.S. was at the same marked disease level as Finland. Why are we not following suit and banning all chemical fertilizers? It appears that the epidemiology of those countries using chemical fertilizers have an increase in disease, while those that use organically-based fertilizing methods do not.”(15)

In addition to sulfur compounds, there is also stem cell therapy to help the body regenerate itself. New stem cells have the potential to mature within the blood system into various immune system cells that recognize and fight off different types of blood cancer as well as used to treat diseases such as lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, myocarditis, and neuroblastoma.

Dr. Betty Hamilton, MD, Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology said, “They also have the ability to heal.” Bone marrow transplants are currently used to treat diseases such as lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, and neuroblastoma.

You may be aware that other countries around the world are currently using stem cell therapy for treating heart disease, painful joints, back pain, arthritis, hair loss, diabetes, Crohn’s, MS, and other health challenges.

Warm summer days and nights can sometimes be a struggle if you are hurting from too much sun, poison ivy, poison oak, mosquito, fire ants, bug bites, or jellyfish stings.

So, here are a few emergency remedies that may help you have a smooth sailing summer of fun!

What’s bugging you?

While summer is the optimal time for showing off toned skin and flaunting revealing fashions, it’s the absolute worst for bug bites, sunburns, and itchy rashes.

Whether it is a mosquito or beach fleas, some of these bites can be downright painful. They can also itch so much you almost want to scratch the skin off, which can create scars and wounds.

Stop skin blunders from ruining the way you feel or look with any of the following natural skin relief treatments.

Mosquitoes don’t normally sting through loose-fitting clothing, so this is a good preventative measure. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors, while wasps and bees are attracted to light, bright, floral colors.

Non-Toxic, Anti Bug Bite Recipe

A bug bite deterrent that is easy to make yourself is made of a blend of one or more of the following ingredients.

Choose one or two of these organic essential oils (2 tsp. total oil):

Lavender essential oil

Myrrh essential oil

Rosemary essential oil

Lemon essential oil

1 cup of 180 proof grain alcohol (you can buy this at a liquor store.) You could also use pure water, if you don’t have alcohol.

Directions:

Combine a total of 2 tsp. of essential oil and combine that with 1 cup of 180 proof grain alcohol.

Place it in a bottle with a tight-fitting lid.

(You can also put it in a spray bottle to easily spray on before going outdoors.)

Shake well.

Test it on a small patch of skin first to make sure you are not sensitive to the oil and alcohol.

If you are ok with the test, use it on your skin to avoid bites.

If you are already bitten and you are itching and wanting to scratch the pain away, here are a few remedies.

Rub aloe vera (either freshly cut or from a bottle) on bites and stings to ease burning.

Get relief from itches by applying a few drops of lavender oil to the affected area as needed.

Once, I was bitten by some kind of small black bug or flea in Panama. It was absolutely miserable for at least a week. I thought it was never going to stop. I read that sometimes these bugs lay eggs in your skin. I also read that it could have been parasites.

Since I had been all over the jungle and visited wild animal rehabilitation places, I was not sure where I received all the bites, or if they were even all the same type of bug or flea bite. It seemed to get worse a few days later and it wasn’t stopping. I was overwhelmed with the itch and was getting quite desperate to find a natural remedy.

For the most extreme cases, where you can’t get the itching to stop, I have found that food grade hydrogen peroxide can be dabbed on the itching spots with a cotton swab or a cotton ball. This solution will kill any parasite that may be inside the skin, but also oxygenate and destroy any infection in the bite.

It can hurt and burn a lot, so I would apply the hydrogen peroxide immediately before getting into the shower to scrub with tea tree oil soap and a body brush. It was very effective and stopped the extreme itching. (I used a 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide, which is extremely strong compared to the 3% grade sold at the pharmacy).

You may need to do this each day, until you are sure it has stopped the itch, killed the parasite, or stopped the infection. With much relief, you can be on the road to healing.

I order food grade hydrogen peroxide through the internet. It is extremely strong. You will need to be very careful when handling this and keep it out of the reach of children. You may want to use normal over the counter (3% grade) hydrogen peroxide, but the food grade is much stronger (35%) for more extreme cases. You can water it down a bit, if it’s too strong for you.

Two brands I have purchased are: Oxygen Wellness Co. and Pure Health Discounts.

If the backbone is out of alignment, it can cause itching. If the atlas bone at the top of the spine is out of alignment, that can cause extreme itching in the upper arms. (Just on a side note, if the atlas bone is out of alignment, that can also be misdiagnosed as a stroke in elderly people and MS in younger people.)

I personally go regularly to my chiropractor to maintain my alignment. My chiropractor, Dr. Michael Hall, is also a neurologist, and he has treated me on a regular basis for over 15 years. Chiropractors all have different techniques, so find one that is best for you.

Poison Ivy or Poison Oak

Once I went with my husband to hike in the woods with our dog. Our dog was running around in the woods and got poison ivy on his fur. I was petting him and brushing off the sticker burrs, and unknowingly got the poison ivy from his fur. I used tea tree oil on the poison ivy and it was almost gone the next day. I used tea tree oil shampoo on the dog also.

A few years later, one of our house remodeling contractors had a terrible case of poison ivy. He had used cortisone, medicines from the doctor, and everything he could think of for more than four months. He was absolutely miserable. I gave him my tea tree oil to try.

The next day, he came back absolutely astounded at how well it had worked. His poison ivy was gone in a matter of days. Tea tree oil also works extremely well for poison oak and fire ant bites as well.

I use the tea tree oil on any itchy place, bite, or rash. It is especially good for bites that have a fluid in them. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties. It is not supposed to be used on an open wound.

I used it on a large swollen bite my son had on his back. It was the middle of the night and we were staying in a remote hotel built into the side of a mountain in Greece, with no medical care nearby. I didn’t know what to do, so I kept putting tea tree oil on it. The next day, the swelling had gone down to half, then the next day it was almost gone. We were so thankful.

Another use for tea tree oil is for chickenpox. My son got chickenpox when he was four. He is a redhead and has very sensitive skin. I put tea tree oil directly on each spot all over his body. I thought it would help him not to itch or scratch. In the morning, his chickenpox outbreak was gone, with no scars, no itching, and no complications. It was amazing. His doctor was completely astonished, as was his preschool teacher. I have used it on just about everything ever since.

In my opinion, the New Zealand variety of tea tree oil smells better than the Australian type, but both work really well.

You can also use aloe vera leaf gel on the rash to soothe and promote healing.

Oatmeal baths are also good for calming us down, as well as calming the skin irritation.

If you go to the beach, a jellyfish sting can really hurt. If you have some lemon or limes, rub the cut fruit on the place that hurts. The citrus can help take the pain out.

Drinking carrot juice or eating carrots or sweet potatoes is a natural way to protect yourself from too much sun during summer. The beta-carotene in these vegetables gives the body some natural sun protection.

You can also wear thick clothing that covers your skin but doesn’t contain chemicals. Clothing treated with chemicals such as titanium or zinc oxide will break down in the wash, enter the water supply, and create hazards to the ecosystem.

So, whenever you are outside, get some natural Vitamin D, put on some natural bug protection, wear natural clothing to protect yourself from too much sun, eat beta-carotene-rich foods, and get into the shade if you feel you have been out too long. Enjoy your sunshine and fresh air!

I hope this helps make your summer adventures more enjoyable!

That warm summer days and nights can sometimes be a struggle. Painful sunburn, poison ivy or poison oak, mosquito or bug bites, and allergies can be a challenge.

Here are a few emergency remedies that may help you have a smooth sailing, painless summer of fun!

Bug Bites

Whether it is a mosquito or beach fleas, some of these bites can be downright painful. They can also itch so much you almost want to scratch the skin off, which can create scars and wounds.

While summer is the optimal time for showing off tanned skin, it’s the can be awful, when you have unattractive bug bites, sunburns, and itchy rashes. Here are a few holistic ways I’ve found to be very effective.

Mosquitoes don’t normally sting through lose fitting clothing, so wearing, gauzy, light weight clothing that covers you, is a good preventative measure. Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors, while wasps and bees are attracted to light, bright, floral colors.

Essential oils are also a good bug, bite deterrent.

Here is my easy Anti-bug Bite Recipe:

Ingredients

Choose one or a combination of the following organic essential oils (2 tsp. total oil):

Lavender essential oil

Myrrh essential oil

Rosemary essential oil

Juniper essential oil

Lemon essential oil.

1 cup of 180 proof grain alcohol

Use a total of 2 tsp. of essential oil and combine that with 1 cup of 180 proof grain alcohol (you can buy this at a liquor store.)

Directions:

Combine a total of 2 tsp. of essential oil and combine that with 1 cup of 180 proof grain alcohol

Place the mixture in a bottle with a tight-fitting lid.

Shake it well, before every use.

It is advised to test it on a small patch of skin first to make sure you or whoever you are putting it on, are not sensitive to the oil and alcohol.

If you are ok with the test, use it on your skin to avoid bites.

If you are already bitten and you are itching and wantin to scratch the pain away, here are a few remedies.

A. Rub aloe vera (either fresh or from a bottle) or organic, raw apple cider vinegar on bites and stings, to ease burning.

B. Get relief from itches by applying a few drops of lavender oil to the affected area as needed.

C. Vitamin B can help calm, reduce nervousness and insomnia. Anxiety can cause itching and/or aggravate it. Try to calm yourself by deep breathing, taking some magnesium and vitamin B’s, to help relax and alleviate nutritional reasons that could cause extra stress and help reduce the pain of the itching. Most people are vitamin B and magnesium deficient. A deficiency in these can result in itchy flaky skin, anxiety, lack of energy, and insomnia.

If you take extra Vitamin B1, or thiamine, since it is water soluble, you will simply excrete it. When the body discards it through the skin, it has an odor mosquitoes avoid. that’s “discarded” by the body produces an odor that is “unbearable” for mosquitoes.

So, you can take a supplement of 100 grams of vitamin B1 plus a supplement of vitamin B complex. You can also dissolve a vitamin B supplement in a body lotion, then use it as a skin cream as a bug repellent. Depending on the skin cream you use, it should be safe enough to use on babies. You can also eat foods rich in Vitamin B, like organic, fresh asparagus and humanely, pasture-raised eggs.

D. I was bitten by some kind of small black bug or flea in Panama recently. It was absolutely miserable for at least a week. I thought it was going to never stop. I read that something these buys lay eggs in you or it could have been parasites. Since I had been all over the jungle and visited wild animal rehabilitation places, I was not sure, where I received all the bites or if they were even all the same type of bug or flea bite. It seemed to get worse a few days later and it wasn’t stopping. I was overwhelmed with the itch and was getting quite desperate to find a natural remedy.

For the most extreme cases, where you can’t get the itching to stop, I have found that food grade hydrogen peroxide can be dabbed on the itching spots with a cotton ball. It will kill any parasite that may be inside the skin, but also oxygenate and destroy any infection in the bite. It can hurt and burn a lot, so I do it immediately before getting into the shower to scrub with tea tree oil soap and a body brush. It was very effective and stopped the extreme itching. You may need to do this each day, until you are sure it has stopped the itch or infection and is on the road to healing. Also, if you do have a parasite inside the skin, the repeating of the hydrogen peroxide will make sure you kill any of them or their offspring.

I order food grade hydrogen peroxide through the internet. This type of hydrogen peroxide is extremely strong. You will need to be very careful when handling this and keep it out of reach of children. You may want to use normal over the counter hydrogen peroxide, but the food grade is much stronger for more extreme cases. You can water it down a bit, if it’s too strong for you. (You may want to wear some rubber gloves when handling it.)

E. In an emergency, applying some mint toothpaste to a bug bite can frequently help cool the spot and alleviate the itch. The will trick your mind to focus on the cool feeling, instead of the itch. Mint toothpaste is also anti-inflammatory.

A few years later, one of our contractors once had terrible poison oak. He had used cortisone, medicines from the doctor, and everything he could think of for more than four months. He was absolutely miserable. I gave him my tea tree oil to try. The next day, he came back absolutely astounded at how well it had worked. His poison oak was gone in a matter of days. Tea tree oil works extremely well for both poison ivy and poison oak.

I use the tea tree oil any place, bite, rash, or itchy place. It is especially good for places that have a fluid in it. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties. It not supposed to be used on an open wound.

In my opinion, the New Zealand variety smells better than the Australian type, but both work really well.

In addition to the tea tree oil, you can also use aloe vera leaf gel on a rash to soothe and promote healing. Oat meal baths are also good for calming down inflamed skin

Natural sunburn treatment

I love getting out in the sun and often over-do the amount of sun I get. I’ve found that all too frequently, I have a bit of a sunburn that hurts and needs some relief.

My favorite thing to do for sunburn is take an oatmeal bath. This is very refreshing as well as soothing.

After the bath, aloe vera leaf gel, either from the plant itself or an aloe vera gel I’ve purchased at the store, can feel very nice applied to the burned places. You can also just use the aloe vera gel without the oat meal bath.

Another thing I’ve found to be very effective is a mixture of cold-pressed, organic apple cider vinegar with some pure water. I use half a cup of water with half a cup of apple cider vinegar. I wash it over the sunburn or put it in my bath water. It can really relieve the sunburn heat and reduce the inflammation. After applying the apple cider vinegar, and it is dried, then applying the aloe vera gel on the inflamed area is also helpful.

Drinking some chamomile tea and dabbing the cool tea on the sunburn, has a cooling effect and can bring some relief as well.

If you have a heat rash from the sun, then try an oatmeal water paste applied to the areal. Sandalwood powder and equal part water, mixed into a paste and spread over the heat rash or sunburn is also a very effective anti-inflammatory remedy.

As a natural sunburn preventative measure, drinking carrot juice, eating carrots, or sweet potatoes, with beta-carotene, is a natural way to protect yourself from too much sun during summer. These vegetables give the body some natural sun protection.

Allergies

Essential oils, Eucalyptus and peppermint, are very effective in alleviating allergy symptoms. I put mine in a humidifier. You can also put a few drops of them in a pan of hot water and do a mist inhalation of the oils. You can also rub the bottom of your feet with these oils, which is refreshing as well as helpful for allergy symptoms.

A nasal lavage is a very effective way to help a congested sinus start to heal. My family went to Dr. Ludwig Michaels, an ear, nose, and throat doctor, for many years. He used a bulb syringe filled with a mixture of sea salt and warm water.

He would fill the bulb syringe with the warm salt water mixture, then he inserted it into one nostril, and gently pressed the warm salt water into the nostril. The water would come out the other nostril, along with any congestion.

He repeated that process on each side a couple of times. We would hold our head over a bowl to catch the water that came out. It always cleared out our congestion and was refreshing. Neti pots work in the same way, but I don’t think they are as easy or effective to use, as a bulb syringe. You can buy rubber bulb syringes and neti-pots at many pharmacies. Note: Always use purified water and avoid using tap water. I recommend using unrefined, mineral rich salt and avoid ever using the white refined salt.

A pinch of unrefined sea salt under the tongue with a little purified water, also has a wonderful antihistamine affect.

The spice turmeric can also help in calming down allergies symptoms. This following recipe makes a wonderfully soothing drink with effective anti-inflammatory properties.

Recipe of Turmeric Milk

Ingredients

1 cup (preferably unsweetened, vanilla) hemp or coconut milk

1/8 tsp. turmeric

1/16 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

¼ tsp. raw, unrefined honey

¼ tsp. cold-pressed, flax seed oil.

Directions

Combine and drink warm or at room temperature.

Note: Many foods act together like a symphony. Combining the black pepper with the turmeric, can make the turmeric up to 1000 times more effective, because of the piperine in the pepper.

In addition to this, turmeric is fat-soluble. This means that it dissolves in fat. Adding the omega 3 fatty acid (cold pressed flax seed oil – which is anti-inflammatory) to the mixture, helps the active component in turmeric, curcumin, to be absorbed more effectively into the blood stream.

Variation: If you don’t have a cold pressed omega-3 fatty acid oils, you can substitute pure, coconut oil instead.

In conclusion, as you enjoy your delightful summer months, using some of these healthful, home-made remedies to make your summer more pleasant can be easy and inexpensive.

May you have a summer of heathy sunshine, fresh and, fun!
