										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h4>Even though it is a little harder these days, we have long held the tradition of sharing a meal with family and friends during the holidays.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>However, many of our holiday foods often involve a number of rich, savory foods, creamy dips and fried foods. These foods taste good, but they don’t always make our body feel it’s best. Here are a few ingredient or food choice tips that can make our dishes healthier to share with our family and friends.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>A potato dish can be made with sweet or purple potatoes in place of white potatoes. Use a high quality, organic butter, or use organic ghee or coconut oil as the healthy fat for mashed potatoes or when baking fries. Sweet potatoes are delicious and high in fiber and beta-carotene.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>For a healthy stuffing, try making one with organic sprouted rice or even wild rice. Then, bake your stuffing in a separate dish instead of cooking it inside the turkey (where it can absorb a high amount of saturated fat from the meat). Also, use vegetable broth in place of chicken broth. Doing both of these things allow the vegetarian or vegan diners to be able to enjoy that dish as well.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>When making cornbread stuffing, purchase non-GMO, organic cornmeal (which is free of the Bt toxin). This can be a great option for those guests who need to eat gluten-free. If you are feeling brave, try using blue cornmeal, which is about 30 percent higher in protein and has more zinc and iron than white or yellow corn.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>Many people are now needing to eat gluten-free. Rice and corn are gluten-free, so creating stuffings using these ingredients will be a wonderful option for your gluten-intolerant guests.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>When preparing creature (beef, lamb, pork, fowl, fish) foods, try using a little orange juice and coconut oil to add moisture, and try baking it instead of frying it. If you are baking, frying or sautéing anything, use organic, pure coconut oil in place of lard, vegetable oil or a trans-fat like Crisco. It handles heat well and has fantastic health benefits.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>You can also grill, broil, or sauté them in a little coconut oil. After you remove them from the heat, you can drizzle some pure, organic, extra-virgin olive oil on them and possibly top it with some lemon or lime juice, or a lemon or lime juice vinaigrette. When dining, choose skinless, white meat pieces, and then add just a tiny bit of gravy.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>Now for dessert, try making a pumpkin pie! You can make a whole-sprouted grain crust yourself or you can find a whole-grain ready-made crust at the store, and make my cashew crème recipe as the whipped cream for the topping. <h4>They now have a coconut milk whipping creme in the freezer section of most grocery stores. <u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>I also love having a simple pitted date as a sweet treat or dessert. It’s just fruit, and it is a healthier choice. <u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>There are delicious pre-made, frozen gluten-free pie crusts in many grocery store freezer sections. Wholly Wholesome and Trader Joe&#8217;s are two of the brands. Most grocery stores now have gluten-free sections in the store and also in the freezer section. You may be surprised to find a variety of delicious healthy choices there.<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>Try using non-dairy milk in your recipes or for your coffee creamer. If you want it to be sweeter, blend the milk (like the unsweetened, vanilla coconut or hemp milk) with a little extra added vanilla or maple extract in a blender and add some pitted dates. I soak the dates in water to make them softer, so they will crème up easier, and voilà &#8230; you have a healthier version of a sweet, holiday creamer for your coffee or desserts!<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>When making or serving snacks, try an easy dip option such as a healthy high-protein hummus or nutritious guacamole. Cutting some cucumber, red bell pepper or celery to use as dipping chips is also a great choice! If you want to serve crackers or chips, try using a whole grain, sprouted, organic version or an organic sweet potato chip or cracker. (Late July is a good brand for chips and Mary’s Gone Cracker’s is my favorite cracker these days. Trader Joe&#8217;s has a delicious organic corn chip.)<u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>For additional snacks that are easy for travel or on the go, try combinations of organic, sprouted nuts, sprouted seeds, pitted olives, pitted dates, raisins, dry fruits, kale chips, and coconut chips. <u></u><u></u></h4>
<h4>The cute little Santa appetizer the lady made in my healthy holiday food cooking class that I taught last month (in the photo above) is simply a banana with a strawberry hat.  Santa&#8217;s nose is a candy “red hot”, and his eyes are chocolate sprinkles. You use large marshmallows cut to make the white hat brim and a small marshmallow for the top of the Santa hat. There are a few marshmallow slices (which aren&#8217;t the healthiest of foods, but there are some healthier versions, if you look for them), but it is all about balance and making foods more nutrient-dense. They are easy and fun to create! Children and adults love making these! I like to use the larger wooden shish kebab skewers with a small fork on the tip to hold them, because they are more stable and longer. Be careful to help smaller children with eating them, if you are using skewers of any type.</h4>
<h4>Here are some easy substitutions I use frequently:</p>
<p>1. Unsweetened yogurt or cottage cheese in place of sour cream</p>
<p>2. Hummus or mashed avocado instead of mayonnaise for sandwiches</p>

<p><strong>August is a good time for fresh, tree-ripened peaches!<br />
With all the fresh fruit available right now, this is the perfect time to make refreshing, home-made popsicles that are vegan, vegetarian, raw, gluten-free and very hydrating!</strong></p>
<p><strong>The great thing about freezing fresh fruit is that it retains the vitamin C in it when frozen.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p>
<p><strong>1 lb. organic peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced</strong></p>
<p><strong>1 c. pure mineral-rich water</strong></p>
<p><strong>Juice of one orange</strong></p>
<p><strong>Directions:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong> Blend all ingredients in food processor until smooth and creamy.</strong></li>
<li><strong> Pour into a popsicle mold and place in freezer until firm.</strong></li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Variation: Add a banana to the mixture in the food processor and make a sorbet that can be eaten like ice cream without a popsicle mold!</strong></p>
<p><strong>Note: You can use the peach peel for the extra nutrients, but it looks “prettier” without the peel.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Yu can use mango or pineapple instead of peaches.</strong></p>

<p>I know how healthy it is and what kind of seeds it is grown with. That is so important to me.</p>
<p>Who has some wonderful tomatoes from your garden? I love tomatoes and I grew these! </p>
<p>Here is one of my favorite recipes!</p>

<p><strong>Fancy Tomato Salad</strong></p>
<p>vegetarian/gluten-free/raw</p>
<p>Serve this salad at room temperature or cold on a hot summer day.<br />
The vegetables in this recipe have natural electrolytes and are very hydrating.</p>
<p>Salad Ingredients:<br />
1 cucumber, sliced<br />
 1 red or yellow bell pepper, sliced<br />
 1 small–medium onion (sweet, Vidalia, or red), sliced <br />
3 large tomatoes, sliced</p>
<p>Dressing Ingredients:<br />
3 T. balsamic vinegar<br />
 3 T. extra-virgin organic olive oil <br />
1 T. honey (optional) <br />
1 T. fresh basil, chopped (or 1⁄2 tsp. dried)<br />
 1⁄4 tsp. unrefined, sea salt</p>
<p>Directions:<br />
1.	Combine all dressing ingredients and set aside.<br />
2.	Combine all salad ingredients and toss in a bowl.<br />
3.	Add dressing to salad and toss. </p>
<p>Note: When slicing the vegetables, the bell pepper looks pretty when it is sliced so that it retains it pretty shape all around the middle instead of just slicing it lengthwise strips. The onions look really pretty sliced into rings. The tomatoes can be made into chunks.<br />
Serving size: 2 servings</p>

Having had the opportunity to assist and promote health and nutrition with world-class athletes over the last 25 years; it is my opinion that Nancy Addison&#8217;s book is a formula for high-level performance in our daily lives. I can&#8217;t imagine a more informative book for the person looking to improve their health.</strong> The chapter about sugar is the most complete information available. Nancy is an expert in Nutrition. What you put on the end of your fork is more powerful medicine than anything you will find at the bottom of a pill bottle.&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Two years ago I had a quadruple bi-pass, and my cardiologist told me that if I changed to a plant based diet, I would never have this problem again. Being from Texas, I grew up on meat and potatoes, and I was not compliant with his advice. I came across Nancy Addison&#8217;s book and it made perfect sense to me with the simple and understandable approach. I&#8217;m started off dropping all animal meat, including chicken, which has as much unhealthy fat as steak. Within a month I dropped 17 lbs, just doing that. My system is functioning a lot better, I&#8217;ve added more fruits and vegetables, and doubled my energy. I haven&#8217;t given up seafood, but maybe down the road I will take the next step. Brava Nancy for getting me to take the first step,and helping me create a new,healthier life!!!!!</p>

The thing I love about this book is it is clearly written and easy to understand! I&#8217;ve purchased so many books in the past that were supposed to be written for beginners in the vegetarian lifestyle, but ended up being geared toward people who were either scientists or well versed in what vegetarianism entails (when that was not what I was looking for or how it was marketed) and they didn&#8217;t do me much good! BUT <strong>THIS BOOK IS THE REAL DEAL! Reading it made me feel like the writer was personally guiding me through the things that are important for me to know. And it is full of a whole bunch of great (and easy) recipes too!</strong> I know several teens in my family who are experimenting with vegetarianism and I will be purchasing several copies of this book, so they will learn to do it in the right way from the beginning. Actually, it would make a great gift for anyone thinking about trying to become a little healthier by incorporating a few more vegies into their diet!&#8221;</p>

This is a wonderful book. This information and recipes that Nancy has included was instrumental in getting back on the path of being healthy. Me being a vegetarian, well honestly I&#8217;m not all there yet&#8230; but I&#8217;m not done yet.<br />
It&#8217;s still a challenge, but after reading her book, I am making better choices in food that I do eat. Using the choices and new recipes has and is instrumental in my weight loss too. It&#8217;s a great lifestyle change book and she goes in depth explanation of the benefits why we should change our diet.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been known carried this book into the groceries stores with me when I have shop. I buy organic foods and most of its all vegetables and then learning how to prepare them. It&#8217;s all in the book.</p>
<p>Our most important asset is our body and our health. So we need to get serious and Nancy puts in easy reading form what we need and how it works and how to do it.</p>

I have enjoyed seeing gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, eating fresh food, meeting fun new people.<br />
I have loved it so much, I am going to start having rejuvenation retreats here this spring.<br />

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Everyone seems to want healthy hair. We want our hair to be growing healthier and thicker naturally. Sometimes we may find too much hair left in our hairbrush or that our hairline is looking a bit farther back than it seemed a few weeks ago. I notice many people these days with balding spots (women and men). I also get asked quite often by clients or friends about how they can have healthier hair. Because of this, I will expand on ways people can have healthier hair by using foods and supplements that are natural and effective.</p>
<p>Our hair can definitely be influenced by what we are consuming. In many cases, hair loss is the result of a deficiency of Vitamin B and other nutrients. Lack of the right kind of essential fatty acids can also be part of the equation.  A lack of Vitamin B&#8217;s (especially B6 and folate), magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and collagen, that the body needs in small amounts to function and stay healthy can result in hair thinning or hair loss.</p>
<p>The combination of nutrients is what is important, including eating the right kind of complex amino acids (proteins) in the right amounts. Foods rich in B vitamins are brewer&#8217;s yeast, wheat germ, and lecithin. Beans, lentils, peas, legumes, and seafood are also high in protein and B vitamins.</p>
<p>There are also many vitamins that contribute to healthy hair. Zinc is one of those. It works in cell reproduction and hormone balance, affecting hair growth and taking care of the hair follicles. If the body is low on zinc, the hair follicles can become weak. Foods heavy in zinc are seafood and nuts.</p>
<p>Vitamin E is another important element of healthy hair, having been shown to improve scalp circulation because of its anti-cellular aging and increased blood oxygenation properties. Avocados, kiwi fruit, nuts, seeds, and olive oil are good sources of vitamin E.</p>
<p>Vitamin A&#8217;s protection of hair follicles has been documented, and can be found in carrots, spinach, and unrefined cold pressed seed oils, such as flax, walnut, pumpkin.</p>
<p>Essential fatty acids are another vital way of promoting healthy skin and hair. Some essential fatty acid sources are hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, avocados, almonds, pecans, pumpkins, hazelnuts, pine nuts, sesame, olives, chia seeds and their respective oils.</p>
<p>I try to get at least 1 teaspoon of the equivelent of the essential fatty acids, omega-3 oil into my diet every day. I keep the cold pressed, organic hemp or flax seed oil in my refrigerator and use it that way. It is easy and you get more of the oil directly into your system that way. My favorite way to add these omega-3 foods or oils to my food is to put the oil or the fresh nuts or seeds to salads, smoothies, casseroles and soups.</p>
<p>Although it is best to get nutrients in a whole food form, all of these vitamins and minerals can be found in supplement form. When buying supplements look for organic whole food vitamins. Your body can read whole foods much better than it can an isolated vitamin. Also, the Organic Consumers Organization recommends looking for products that contain &#8220;100 percent plant-based&#8221; or &#8220;100 percent animal-based&#8221; on the product&#8217;s label, so you know you aren&#8217;t getting synthetic vitamins. I recommend avoiding synthetic vitamins.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Water is one key nutrient to our health and well-being. Our bodies are about 66–72% water. Blood uses the water to transport oxygen, nutrients, and antibodies to all parts of<br />
the body.</p>
<p>Many illnesses are actually a result of dehydration. When we feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated. I always drink a glass of pure mineralized water as soon as I wake in the morning. When we wake up, our body is empty, so our body will absorb whatever we ingest like a sponge. Therefore, a glass of high-quality, mineral-rich water will be utilized more efficiently.</p>
<p>I try not to drink it with meals, because it can water down the digestive enzyme juices, making it harder to digest the food. It is best between meals.</p>
<p>Fereydoon Batmanghelidj MD studied water while he was a prisoner in an Iranian jail.</p>
<p>He treated and cured about 3,000 prisoners, using water and a little sea salt to treat what he called chronic intracellular dehydration. He found that most people are sick because of dehydration. He wrote<br />
many books on the subject after his release. The “water cure” that he prescribed is:</p>
<p>1. Sufficient water. Drink an ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight daily.This means that someone weighing 200 pounds should drink 100 ounces of water a day.</p>
<p>This is inaddition to any other beverages. Consume water first thing upon getting up in the morning and then drink it all day long on a continual basis every two hours.</p>
<p>2. Sea salt. Put 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt on the tongue with every 16 ounces of water. This is a key component in the “water cure.” This is really important for people suffering from allergies<br />
or asthma; the salt acts like an antihistamine.</p>
<p>Almost all public water supplies have added chemicals to the water supply, including sodium fluoride and chlorine, both of which are poisons.</p>
<p>Chlorine was the first poison developed for warfare. Chlorine also destroys the Vitamin E in the body and the good probiotics in the intestines. “Industrial chemist J.P. Bercz, PhD, showed in 1992 that chlorinated<br />
water alters and destroys unsaturated essential fatty acids (EFAs), [14] the building blocks of people’s brains and central nervous systems.”135</p>
<p>While showering or swimming in chlorinated water, the chlorine soaks into the skin cells. Our skin is our largest organ. That is why the patch is used to give medicines to people; they absorb directly into the<br />
skin and from there into the blood stream.</p>
<p>Research linking swimming in chlorinated pools to cancer and other medical conditions continues to make headlines. The latest such studies come from the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology<br />
in Barcelona, Spain. They indicate, among other things, that swimming in a pool with chlorine may increase the risk of developing cancer and damage lungs.136</p>
<p>Sodium fluoride and fluorosilicic acid are common chemicals added to our municipal water supply. Studies were done for tooth decay prevention with calcium fluoride. The companies that had a by-product of sodium<br />
fluoride (that can be contaminated with lead and arsenic as well) are companies that make aluminum and fertilizers.</p>
<p>Sodium fluoride is the fluoride that the government adds to the water supply. This is added on the pretext that it is good for our teeth and health, but dental studies were done using calcium fluoride, so this is a different type of fluoride from what is being added to the water supply. Fluoride has been used in Chinese medicine as a tranquilizer and also in many places as a rat poison.</p>
<p>According to Paul Connett, PhD, “Fluoride is a cumulative poison. On average, only 50% of the fluoride we ingest each day is excreted through the kidneys. The remainder accumulates in our bones, pineal gland, and other tissues. If the kidney is damaged, fluoride accumulation will increase, and with it, the likelihood of harm.”137</p>
<p>Fluoride affects the thyroid gland and all our enzymatic systems. Side effects from fluoride include weight problems, damage to our immune system, and other serious disorders. These chemically derived fluorides are completely different from naturally occurring fluoride.</p>
<p>Fluoride affects different people and ages differently. According to Connett: The level of fluoride put into water (1 ppm) is up to 200 times higher than normally found in mothers’ milk (0.005–0.01 ppm) (Ekstrand 1981; Institute of Medicine 1997). There are no benefits, only risks, for infants ingesting this heightened level of<br />
fluoride at such an early age (this is an age where susceptibility to environmental toxins is particularly<br />
high).138</p>
<p>Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Norway, and France do not put fluoride in their water. Some of these countries have made it illegal to add to the water supply.</p>
<p>Huge numbers of Safe Drinking Water Act violations are reported each year by water treatment facilities. Many areas have old, dirty water pipes, and even some really old lead pipes, transporting the water. New</p>
<p>Scientist reported that a comprehensive survey of US drinking water showed that it contained an array of hormonally active chemicals like MTBE (methyl-tert-butyl-ether), a chemical found in fuel and a potential<br />
human carcinogen in high doses, and atrazine, a US pesticide that was banned in the European Union. Atrazine has been linked to reproductive problems in lab animals and is also linked to both breast cancer<br />
and prostate cancer.</p>
<p>In 2010, National Geographic reported that drinking water in schools in 27 states was contaminated with toxic substances including lead.139 In 2009, the Associated Press analyzed data from the EPA and found the<br />
public water for about 100 school districts contained lead, pesticides, and other toxins.140 If it is being pumped to schools, then it is probably being pumped into homes and businesses as well. Because of the state of our municipal water supply, a good water filter can be a beneficial purchase. I recommend purchasing one for the whole house. When we shower, we can absorb as many toxins from the water as we can from<br />
drinking about eight glasses of water, so a shower or bath filter is recommended as well.</p>
<p>The Reverse Osmosis is an good choice for a water filter system. When drinking purified bottled water, you can add some minerals (like a pinch of sea salt) to the water. When you do this your body won’t need to pull minerals from your body in order to process the water.</p>
<p>Bottled water comes in a variety of choices. The EPA standards of the Clean Water Act do not apply to bottled water; there is very little regulation on bottled water, which is why I recommend having your own filter.</p>
<p>What about “vitamin waters”? Many vitamin waters contain all kinds of ingredients, like high-fructose corn syrup, artificial color, preservatives, and even caffeine. Make certain to always read ingredient lists<br />
before you buy anything. Packaging can be very misleading.</p>
<p>You can also hydrate with good, high-quality fruits and vegetables that are high in natural water content, like cucumber, watermelon, celery, and carrots. They contain pure water that is rich with vitamins and minerals. Watermelon is 90% pure, clean water. When you have these real, whole fruits and vegetables as juices, you are getting natural electrolytes as well as hydrating fluids.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Do you remember having a watermelon seed-spitting contest as a child? We were actually allowed to spit something! What a silly and funny activity for the 4th of July or a picnic. The heat of the summer is the perfect time to indulge in sweet, juicy, nutrient rich watermelon. Watermelon is luscious and refreshing as a snack or as part of a fruit salad, dessert, or drink.</p>
<p>One cup of watermelon has only 48 calories, however it has high levels of nutrients, making it the perfect healthy treat. Watermelons are packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamins B 6 and B 1, potassium, and magnesium. In addition, medical studies have shown that watermelon can help with inflammation conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer, and arthritis. It is also high in the antioxidant lycopene, which has cancer preventing properties and helps oxidize cholesterol.</p>
<p>Watermelons were originally cultivated in Africa and have been used as a source of water for centuries. The flesh is 90 percent clean, pure water, which made it a safe water source in desert areas. There are over 500 varieties of watermelon throughout the world, including in India and Egypt, where they have been cultivated since 2500 B. C. They range in weight from 5 pounds to around 50 pounds, with the largest in recorded history being a 279-pound melon from North Carolina!</p>
<p>When picking out a watermelon, make sure the surface is smooth and symmetrical, with a round or oblong shape. There should be a flat and slightly yellow place on one side where it was sitting on the ground. Take your thumb and thump the melon while listening for a rich thudding sound to ensure proper ripeness. They should be allowed to ripen on the vine; so buying your melon locally ensures it will be fresh and tasty. A watermelon can stay refrigerated for about 5 to seven days.</p>
<p>Once you have picked the perfect melon, enjoy a watermelon drink on a hot day!</p>
<h2>Watermelon Drink Recipe</h2>
<p>Cut watermelon into chunks and remove the seeds.<br />
Place it in a blender.<br />
Add a splash of fresh limejuice.<br />
Variation: Add some sparkling water and a spring of mint for a fresh cocktail taste.</p>
<h2>Watermelon Kabobs</h2>
<p>Ingredients:</p>
<p>Kabob sticks<br />
Watermelon<br />
Fruit &#8211; a variety of colorful fruit like pineapple, apple, peach, mango, cantaloupe, grapes, kiwi, banana, etc.</p>
<p>Directions:</p>
<p>Cut the fruit into thick chucks.<br />
Slide the fruits on the kabob stick.</p>
<p>(Be thoughtful as to the age of the child. Sharp sticks can be dangerous to children and you may want to sue straws instead.)</p>
<p>Serve chilled or at room temperature, as a snack, desert or appetizer.<br />
This is a fun food preparation activity that the children can help make.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>What is raw and living food?</h3>
<p>Raw and living foods are foods that have not been heated over 105–118°F. It’s basically eating food in its whole real form, without damaging the true nature and nutrition of the food. The enzymes in the food retain much higher nutrient levels in this form.</p>
<p>We need enzymes for digestion and nutrient absorption. Live enzymes in foods help us digest efficiently and completely. Remember, the key to health is a clean and nutrient-rich body.</p>
<p>Raw and living foods are the best form of foods for optimum health and wellness. These foods will feed the body on a deep, cellular level without stressing it as much as cooked food does. Cooked foods are dead. They don’t supply any live enzymes.</p>
<p>When foods are devoid of living enzymes, it means the body has to work much harder and supply more of its own enzyme store to digest the foods. Pulling enzymes from storage and using them to digest enzyme-empty food makes the body work harder compared to eating foods that supply their own enzymes ready for digestion.</p>
<p>In addition, raw and living foods have more nutrients available for the body during digestion. One of the most vital nutrients is sulfur, which is often overlooked. Sulfur is critical to our body’s metabolism, specifically the catalytic function of large numbers of enzymes. Without the proper levels of sulfur, our bodies can’t build good healthy cells, and this leads to illness.</p>
<p>Although sulfur is present in most organically grown fresh food, it is mostly found in fruits, vegetables, and some grains. Due to its unstable nature, the sulfur is quickly lost from food when it is processed, cooked, or stored. That’s another reason having a diet high in freshly picked, raw, unprocessed, whole, organic food is vitally important.</p>
<p>Raw, living, unprocessed foods are also highly alkalizing. The body’s pH (acidic balance) should ideally be 7.2–7.3. However, most people with chronic or acute diseases usually have overly acidic bodies with a pH well below 7.3. Eating foods that are highly alkalizing can help the body maintain a healthier pH.</p>
<p>Our well-being depends on the quality of our food. Food starts to die the moment it is picked. Food we buy at the supermarket is probably at least five days old. The fresher the food, the more alive it is. The enzymes will be more vibrant and rich in nutrients. Locally grown or home-grown, fresh, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains will give the body more nutrient-dense, enzyme-rich food to process, absorb, and turn into the body cells. It is all about energy. Fresh food is more vibrant.</p>
<p>A diet with a ratio of about 80 percent raw to 20 percent cooked food will work for most people throughout most of the year. I say this because, I think taking anything to extremes aren&#8217;t always the best way.</p>
<p>If you add warm foods to your diet in the cool months, this can be supportive to certain parts of the body. For instance, the thyroid is better supported when cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower are lightly steamed or sautéed instead of eaten raw. This is because these foods—as well as yams, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage—contain natural chemicals called goitrogens that can interfere with thyroid hormone synthesis. Lightly steaming or cooking these vegetables deactivates these chemicals. Adding foods like cooked whole, sprouted grain rice can work as a tonic for the spleen and pancreas.</p>
<p>Enjoy your raw foods, but listen to your own body and be mindful of how they affect it. Your goal is to create balance in your health, your diet, and your life, too.</p>
<p>We are, after all, what we eat.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I think it is important to clean our fruits, vegetables and other food before it is cut, cooked or consumed. We get home from the store or farmer&#8217;s market and we have a large amount of fresh food. I personally don&#8217;t consume that food until it&#8217;s been washed well with non-toxic methods that won&#8217;t leave a residue on my food.</div>
<p style="text-align: left;">I even clean fruits like cantaloupe, because cantaloupes are prone to have mold on them, from sitting on the wet ground. When we cut our fruits and vegetables, the knife can drag germs down and through the food, so if the skin is clean, this will be avoided.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The only time I would <strong>not</strong> wash my food, is when it is from my very own organic garden and I know it&#8217;s already clean from the rain. Food that is fresh from the garden has naturally probiotics and B vitamins on them from the soil. So, that is the only time I don&#8217;t wash my fresh fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">But most of the fruits and vegetables we buy at the store are picked, they are stored or packed, trucked and/or shipped, then unpacked. There can be little creatures (think rats or roaches) that might be running about in the storage unit or boxes. There is a  likely chance that the food is dirty. So, taking a little time to clean them, in my opinion, is always a healthy choice.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I even rinse and sprout my rice, lentils, quinoa (which is a seed) and beans before I cook them. Rinsing rice, lentils, quinoa, beans, before they are cooked, helps take out a lot of the starch in the rice, but also will help remove the phytic acid in all of them, which can make those foods healthier and easier to digest.</p>
