Nancy’s Favorite Green Juice Drink Recipe

St. Patrick’s Day is a perfect time to serve healthy green drinks to your family and friends!

This drink requires a juicer. After juicing, you may want to add a couple of tablespoons of the pulp back into the drink before consuming it, because it can be easier on your stomach, and it will have the fiber you need to absorb any toxins the antioxidants flush out of the cells. (You can also combine these in a food processor, and drink it with the pulp or strain out the pulp.)

Use organic non-GMO ingredients if possible.

Ingredients:

5 stalks celery

1 cucumber

2-3 leaves of your favorite leafy greens

½ lime with skin

1 pinch unrefined sea-salt ( Real, Bolivian Rose, or Himalayan are good choices.)

Directions:

1. Clean your lime and cucumber well and cut in chunks, with the skin.

2. Juice all fruits and vegetables. (Put the lime and cucumber in the juicer with the skins on them. The skins have more nutrients than the inner part of the vegetable or fruit.)

3. Add the pinch of the unrefined, sea-salt before drinking. (This salt actually helps you absorb more of the nutrients in the drink!)

4. Drink within 20 minutes for maximum nutritional benefit.

Food cravings are usually caused by ingesting nutrient empty, processed, synthetic, artificial and/or dead foods, because your body is desiring nutrition in order to function properly.

Living food (also known as raw food) is whole food that hasn’t been heated or processed higher than 105 to 118 degrees. The high heat temperature destroys the life-force of the food. Live enzymes that regenerate our cells and feed our body are bountiful in living (raw) foods.

As we age, we lose the ability to produce sufficient digestive enzymes.

Eating certain foods (such as creature foods, cooked, irradiated, microwaved, pasteurized, and processed foods), improperly chewing food, and even chewing gum make our body utilize more of our digestive enzymes than necessary. These actions deplete the amount of our enzymes for use in digestion. Without digestive enzymes, there would be an absence of raw materials to keep our cells operational. When we are completely depleted of living enzymes we die.

If the food we eat isn’t broken down properly, our body won’t completely absorb it. We absorb most of our nutrients in the intestinal tract through the intestinal wall. A clean intestinal wall will help the nutrients be absorbed. The integrity of the intestines is essential to our health and well-being.

Toxins and acid accumulate in our body over time through various actions like breathing polluted air, eating processed or fast foods, being exposed to carcinogens in various cleaning solutions, and more. Over time, they can build up in the body and create inflammation, as well as health and weight problems.

A detox cleanse helps flush out toxins deep in the body’s cells and clean out the intestinal tract.

Anyone over the age of 40 should consider taking a high-quality digestive enzyme supplement approximately five minutes before each meal. This will supplement the body’s enzymes and aid the body’s ability to break down the food being consumed.

Chewing our food is a function that serves to jump-start the digestive process while in the mouth and bring pleasure to consuming food.

It is vitally important to always chew your food slowly, because the better the food is chewed, the easier it will be for the body to digest it. Ideally food should be liquefied by the time it is swallowed. The more we chew our food, the slower we eat.

It takes the brain about 10 to15 minutes to become aware of the stomach being full. We tend to eat less, and digest our food more efficiently, by eating slower.

In the American culture, we are encouraged to drink liquids with our meals. Unfortunately, drinking liquids with our meals dilutes the body’s digestive enzymes and makes it harder for the body to digest the food.

Eat ample amounts of fresh, uncooked, organic fruits and vegetables. These whole foods provide nutrient-dense live enzymes that feed our body, and they contribute additional live enzymes to support our digestion. For example, eating a whole, fresh, organic apple will provide about 40% additional live enzymes that will help with the digestion, whereas a cooked, processed, or in other words, dead food, won’t contribute any live enzymes.

Our health depends on eating the highest quality foods that are more alkalizing and grown fresh locally. Processed foods and meats are very acidic.

Disease thrives in an acidic environment. Our bodies need to maintain a certain pH balance in order to survive. If we eat too many acidic foods (like creature, processed, synthetic foods or supplements), our bodies will naturally attempt to adjust the pH

balance. To adjust the pH balance and to become more alkaline, the body will pull calcium from the bones to neutralize or buffer the acid. Eating a diet high in fresh, whole fruits and vegetables will contribute to a more alkaline-rich diet, which can help with the maintenance of the pH in the body.

The Magic Of Enzymes! It’s all about energy!

Live enzymes in food play a crucial role in our health because we have a limited supply of digestive enzymes in our system.

When we are young, we have a natural abundance of enzymes. By the time we are elderly, we have lost over half of our enzymes. When our enzymes are gone, we die.

Making new ones becomes more and more difficult, if not impossible.

Eating certain foods like meats, not properly chewing our food, exposure to pathogenic microbes, and chewing gum all make our body utilize more of our digestive enzymes and deplete the amount we have to use.

(Do you chew gum? Why would this matter? Well, chewing gum is a waste of your precious enzymes, because you are not consuming and not needing to digest any food and you are using up your limited number of enzymes!)

According to Dr. Howell, our digestive system is only able to digest about half of the food we eat.[1] A raw apple that has not been irradiated (which destroys the enzymes) contains enough live enzymes to break down about 40–60 percent of the apple when it is consumed. Our body has to produce the enzymes or acid to complete the digestion process.

Cooked food, on the other hand, has no living enzymes in it to help the body digest it. Therefore, the body is forced to use its precious supply of digestive enzymes to break down the food and utilize the nutrients. This causes stress on the digestive system, the pancreas, and the immune system.

In his book Enzyme Nutrition, Dr. Howell said, “We know that decreased enzyme levels are found in a number of chronic ailments, such as allergies, skin disease, and even serious diseases like diabetes and other severe diseases.”[2]

An interesting observation I made, when I was in Brazil, at John of God’s Casa last month, was that I met many people with cancer, who had gone there seeking to be healed. Not from nutrition.

What I found interesting is that there was a very high number of the people who had cancer, also chewed gum. This gum chewing depleted their precious enzymes.

In his studies, Dr. Howell found that rats fed a raw, living food diet lived about 50 percent longer than rats that ate cooked food.

His studies with people in a sanitarium led him to conclude it was “impossible to get people fat on raw foods. . . regardless of the calorie intake.”[3] Along with that conclusion, Dr. Anthony Cheung, FRCP, noted:

Dr. Howell’s use of food enzymes suggests that the supply of human enzymes is limited at birth. The faster we consume our enzymes, the shorter our life span will be.

Raw food and/or living food (which is food that is not processed and/or cooked over 115 -118 degrees) is a good source of food enzymes. Ingestion of raw food or enzyme supplements will lessen the work of our digestive system, so that more energy is reserved for other metabolic activities.[4]

Raw and/or Living Food has live enzymes in it.

This study that follows, using cats as the subject of the study, is quite interesting:

The Pottinger Cat Study was an extensive, 10-year study of approximately 900 cats. Conducted by Dr. Francis Pottinger, the study examined the effects of raw food versus cooked food on the health and well-being of two groups of cats.

One group was fed a diet of raw meat and milk (which naturally contained live enzymes and probiotics), and the other group was given cooked meat and pasteurized milk (whose enzymes and probiotic nature had been destroyed with heat).

Dr. Pottinger found the cats eating raw food remained healthy and disease-free for generation after generation. But the cats on the cooked food diet started to get lazy and have degenerative diseases. The second generation of cats on the cooked food diet developed mid-life degenerative diseases.

Cats in the third generation of the cooked-food diet developed diseases, blindness, shorter lifespans, and infertility.

That’s Food For Thought!

I just thought I would keep you up on what I am doing this week.
I spoke at Metro Cooking Houston last week and it was a really
exciting and a fun event.I spoke to the media at a special event and
then presented 4 talks on the healing diet and organic gardening.

At night we went out to dinner and when we went to Bistro 19 and Charles
Clark’s Ibiza. Charles is an amazing chef, who told me he loved my book.

Both restaurants were superb. Charles Clark is opening up a restaurant here in Dallas soon.
Here is the information for my talks this weekend. I give 2 thirty
minute talks on the healing diet and one on easy organic gardening
and I sign my books for anyone who wishes to buy them.

This event is huge in Washington DC, where they have had the event for
12 years. This was the second year it has been in Houston and it is
the first year in Dallas.

It is a huge food festival! I was really impressed with the quality of
the event.

Here are the links. It is at the Dallas Convention Center this
Saturday and Sunday.
