| I love green smoothies! I have many reasons to have a green smoothie. Firstly, it helps someone get the fiber-rich, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables, with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, in a delicious easy way into your diet. A green smoothie also contains healthy soluble and insoluble fiber, which regulates blood sugar levels. A green smoothie can also help prevent constipation and promote regularity. Ingredients |
| 1 cup Baby Leafy Greens (fresh watercress, romaine, red leaf lettuce, sprouts, baby spinach – in any combination and torn into small pieces) |
| 1 tsp. raw, organic, Broccoli Sprout Powder (or you can use wheat grass powder or Moringa powder or Greens 85 powder) |
| 2 cups of Whole Fruits (pear, apple, mango, papaya, pineapple, or a combination) chopped into chunks, with large seeds and stems removed. (You can also use berries with the seeds, but this will change the color of the smoothie.) |
| 3 – 4 Dates (pitted and soaked in water to soften) |
| 2 cups Coconut Water (More water can be added to desired consistency.) |
| 1 tablespoon organic, cold-pressed Flax or Hemp Seed Oil |
| 1 tablespoon pure, organic, cold-pressed Coconut Oil |
| 1 tsp. Lime or Lemon Juice (freshly juiced and used immediately) |
| Directions |
| Put all ingredients in the blender and blend. |
| Serve immediately. |
| Additional Note: |
| I order my raw, organically grown broccoli sprout powder from the Indoor Organic Gardens of Poughkeepsie.
I put it in my food throughout the day. You can mix it in mashed potatoes, apple sauce, cool soups, hummus, and more. It doesn’t have much flavor, so it’s easy to add this nutrient-dense food to your meals. |
| Why add broccoli sprout powder to your diet?
Broccoli sprouts have high levels of sulforaphane. One study showed that sulforaphane reduced the size and number of breast cancer cells by up to 75%. |
| Similarly, an animal study found that treating mice with sulforaphane helped kill off prostate cancer cells and reduced tumor volume by more than 50%. |
| An additional analysis of 35 studies showed that eating more cruciferous vegetables (broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable) was associated with a lower risk of colorectal and colon cancer. |
