Chromium, A Vital Nutrient For Our Health

"Diabetes And Your Diet" By Nutritionist & Chef, Nancy Addison
Chromium is a nutrient that is critical for our health and well-being. I have a lot of people have been asking me what particular Chromium GTF supplement I use, after they read my book/cookbook, “Diabetes And Your Diet.”

The mineral chromium helps transport glucose from the blood to the muscles. The pancreas cannot make insulin without this vital mineral, which is probably missing from most people’s diets today. It could be one of the most important missing links to having a healthy pancreas.

This would be a critical component for a person with type 1 or 2 diabetes, who wishes to be healthier.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “Chromium is known to enhance the action of insulin, a hormone critical to the metabolism and storage of carbohydrates, fat, and protein in the body.” (1)

People who eat non-organic foods have a greater likelihood of being deficient in this important trace mineral.

The chemical fertilizers used in industrial farming destroy chromium that would naturally be in the soil. All GMO foods are grown with these chemical fertilizers. The USDA says that about 90% of the food on the market today in the US,  is grown this way, which is why I think this important mineral is missing from most people’s diet today. This is one  of many reasons fresh, certified organic, non-GMO food is always the best choice at the grocery store.

Chromium is also a critical nutrient to help with mood and depression. If you are feeling down and depressed, you could possibly low in this nutrient.

Chromium  supplements should have GTF (Glucose Tolerance Factor) on the label. It should say, “Chromium GTF”. Avoid synthetic supplements that don’t list whole, organic foods as the ingredients.

I have used this one, here is the link.

There is a liquid vitamin that is offered with chromium in it. I like it because it’s easy and vitamins all work in harmony and this is an easy, once a day way to get a mutlitiude of vitamins including the chromium in an absorbable form. This liquid vitamin has the chromium in the chromium polynicotinate version, which is made up of chromium and niacin. The niacin helps chromium absorption. Here is the link for a  multivitamin I also use that is in liquid form.
